OUR MISSION
The mission of the Urban League of Greater Miami, Inc. is to prepare youth, family, and communities for the future by expanding pathways to opportunities that fuel personal growth and sustain a generational legacy of impact.
First Day Ready – August 11, 2026
Urban League of Greater Miami’s inaugural First Day Ready event brought families together for a day focused on making sure Miami’s children were ready to head back to school with confidence. From free haircuts and braids to health screenings, dental services, and community resources, families had access to essential services – all in one place.
With more than 300 children registered, local barbers, braiders, healthcare providers, community organizations, volunteers, and Urban League staff came together to make the day possible. Families also enjoyed free food, ice cream, and activities for children throughout the event.
First Day Ready was more than a back-to-school event – it was a reflection of what can happen when organizations and community members come together to support families. We are grateful to everyone who helped make our first First Day Ready a success, and we look forward to building on this work in the years ahead!
As an affiliate of the National Urban League, we are part of a nationwide movement dedicated to economic empowerment and racial equity. Locally, we provide programs and services in education, housing, employment, and advocacy to help individuals and families thrive.
