The uptick in violent crimes in the Liberty City community prompted the Urban League of Greater Miami to present a community-wide crime prevention event on Thursday, August 7, 2014 from 6PM to 8PM in collaboration with the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) Northside Station. MDPD hosted a crime prevention workshop and discussed recent crime patterns in the community. Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department also provided fingerprinting for youth to be used as child ID 
cards for parents. This event was an opportunity for residents to take a stand against crime, reduce their own risks, and empower them to make their neighborhoods safer by collaborating with law enforcement.
In addition to crime prevention, various community agencies and social programs were on site to provide valuable information and resources to the community. The Miami-Dade Chapter of the NAACP provided onsite voter’s registration, and the Miami Dade Health Department offered health awareness activities.
This event was made possible and funded by the State of Florida, the Urban League of Greater Miami, and the Florida Consortium of Urban League affiliates.
