Amid the cranes, mortar and other tools of an active construction site, officials with the Urban League of Greater Miami used a dedication of Liberty City affordable housing apartments to launch an educational project that affects people who live miles away. Willard Fair and Miami-Dade Commissioner Audrey Edmonson are all smiles during the launch of the We Rise Educational Village in Liberty City. T. Willard Fair, president and CEO of the Urban League of Greater Miami, announced the launch of the We Rise Educational Village, an initiative that brings together dozens of local and national agencies and organizations that are committed to boosting the value of education. The initiative stresses that Black people are the only ones who can resolve community ills and develop workable solutions. Fair said the project would help adults transform their attitudes, values and belief systems, then help them become engaged civically and politically. Part of that plan is to get people registered to vote, and eventually identify young people to run for elected office.
