Urban League students march against violence

Students and law enforcement march against violence at the 26th Annual Preventing Crime in the Black Community conference, hosted by the Urban League of Greater Miami.
From WSVN:

MIAMI (WSVN) — Hundreds of South Florida students took to the streets of Downtown Miami on Thursday in a rally for peace.
The march took place on day three of the 26th Annual National Conference on Preventing Crime in the Black Community. “I had a group of friends who their good friend passed away last year,” said North Miami Sr. High Student Dukencia Romeus. “He was shot and killed in front of his house.”
At around 6 p.m., students, law enforcement members, volunteers and personalities from WEDR 99 Jamz marched from the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Downtown Miami to the pavilion at Bayside. Speakers and entertainers encouraged students from Miami-Dade public schools to make the choice to avoid violence. “I had one friend who killed himself and one that was gunned down in front of a church,” said North Miami Sr. High Student Geraldo Almendares.
Police are now partnering with hundreds of students from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties to build a relationship and cut down on violence in the black community. “When they trust us, the police department, and we can go to them for information, it makes for a closing of opportunity for crime to happen,” said Miami-Dade Schools Police Chief Charles Hurley.
