National School Choice Week Celebration at Urban League of Broward County

A celebration of school choice will be held Friday, January 30, 2015 at a special event that kicks off at the Urban League of Broward County, 560 Northwest 27th Avenue, Ft. Lauderdale. Doors will open at 3 pm on January 30. This event is one of an unprecedented 11,083 independently planned and independently funded special events taking place across all 50 states during the Week, which runs until January 31, 2015.
The goal of the Week is to shine a positive spotlight on effective education options for children, and to raise awareness of the importance of, and benefits of, school choice in a variety of forms.
Speakers and Honorees for this event will include T. Willard Fair, President and CEO of the Urban League of Greater Miami, Founder of the 1st charter school in Florida with Governor Jeb Bush; Frank Biden, School Choice advocate and the brother of Vice President Joe Biden; Jody Perry, Director, Charter School Management/Support at Broward County Schools; Ralph Arza, former State Representative and Director of Grassroots and Strategic Planning for the Florida Charter School Alliance will serve as the events master of ceremonies.
The event is centered around testimonials from students, parents, and teachers who benefit from an array of education opportunities.
“Florida is a national leader in providing quality, effective education options for children,” said Laura Hanley, Executive Director of the Florida Charter School Alliance. “National School Choice Week provides an opportunity for the Sunshine State to demonstrate to the nation the basic but transformational message that school choice works.” Hanley continued, “We are so proud of our charter school students in Florida and this event will showcase some of their incredible stories”.

Held every year in January, National School Choice Week is an independent public awareness effort spotlighting effective education options for children, including traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, private schools, online learning, and homeschooling. National School Choice Week is America’s largest-annual series of education- related events.
